Lost in Translation: Hearing the Word in New Ways

Jesus is Word because he is himself a message from God: what Jesus says and does tells us what God is like. The way we hear and understand the Word depends heavily on the language through which our own minds perceive Him. So Jesus advises us, Take care, then, how you hear (Luke 8:18). Join Jesuit novice Chris Holownia as he examines modern translations of the Scriptures, exploring how the manifold tongues of hearers, from English to Spanish to Mandarin Chinese, affect their peculiar insights into God’s Word. Come broaden your ability to appreciate Jesus’ revelation so that we may discern him more readily, echo him more faithfully, know him more deeply, and announce him more distinctly to hearts far and wide!
Originally from Wellesley, MA, Chris is a graduate of Yale College and Simmons College. Upon graduation, he taught Mandarin Chinese and several other languages.
