"Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul."
Tiffany glass, stained glass, and a raised glass! Join us for a cultural and church tour in historic Utica, NY.
We begin at the Munson Williams Proctor Arts Institute, where we will enjoy the Louis Comfort Tiffany: Treasures from the Driehaus Collection, a spectacular presentation that features more than 60 objects, spanning more than 30 years of Tiffany’s prolific and celebrated career. The exhibition is an exploration of craftsmanship, ingenuity, and pure aesthetic beauty that also examines the themes of 19th-century women artisans and innovations in industrial technology.
From there we head to the Irish Cultural Center of Utica, which also showcases stained glass, from Ireland. Here we will learn about the Irish legacy while sampling local pub fare (and possibly raising a glass!).
Our final stop is a tour of St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church, founded in 1841, and the home parish of Barbara Koob, later known as St. Marianne Cope. Here we will see stained glass made by the Tyrolese Art Glass of Innsbruck, Austria, were installed at a cost of $500.00 for each window.
$20 registration fee includes admission and lunch.
