34th Divine Mercy Sunday in Utica
St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church at 702 Columbia St in Utica will celebrate its 34th Divine Mercy Sunday on April 7 with an afternoon liturgy. The featured guest homilist is Fr. James Buttner. Fr. Buttner is a newly ordained priest of the Diocese of Syracuse. He grew up in Camillus, New York, and attended Colgate University where he studied physics. Prior to entering the seminary, he attended World Youth Day 2015 in Krakow and was able to visit the Divine Mercy Shrine and St. Faustina’s convent and chapel. Fr. Buttner completed his seminary studies and formation at Theological College and The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. He was ordained by Bishop Douglas Lucia on June 3, 2023, and is currently the Parochial Vicar at Spirit of Hope Parish serving the areas of Canastota, Sylvan Beach, Oneida, Sherrill, and Vernon. Liturgy begins at 1:30 pm with music & confessions; the Divine Mercy Chaplet will be prayed in song at 3:00 pm & the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be celebrated at 3:30 pm with Padre Amedeo Guida presiding.
