Forty Hours Devotion at St. Patrick’s Church

Starting 5pm, Sunday July 14th—8am, Tuesday, July 16th

40 Hours Devotion comes from the 40 hours that Christ’s body traditionally rested in the tomb; 40 also being significant in the Bible which is often tied to trials and or suffering and or a period of preparation: the Israelites wandered in the desert for 40 years, and Christ was tempted in the desert for 40 days prior to His ministry.

The practice of 40 Hours Devotion is one of continuous prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. It originated several centuries ago and was introduced in the United States by St. John Neumann, the forth Bishop of Philadelphia.

A 40 Hours Devotion will take place in the main church at St. Patrick’s in anticipation of the Eucharistic Revival’s National Eucharistic Congress being held in Indianapolis, Indiana this July. The devotion will begin after the 4pm Mass Sunday, July 14th and will conclude after the 7am Mass on Tuesday, July 16th. There will be opportunity for communal liturgies and prayers: Mass, Liturgy of the Hours, Rosary, Divine Mercy Chaplet, Confessions as well as silent adoration. Additional details forthcoming.

While you are welcome to stop in during any of the 40 hours, we also need to confirm coverage so please sign up.

Sign-ups are available at the Main Entrance, online at www.sta-sp.org, email - stpatrick@sta-sp.org, or calling 607-722-1060.
